Jana Leal

Jana Leal holds Ph.D. and M.A. in Sociology at the Social Sciences Institute, State University of Rio de Janeiro (IESP-UERJ). Between 2020 and 2021, she worked as a researcher at Núcleo de Pesquisas e Estudos do Trabalho (NUPET/IESP-UERJ). Leal has been an international visiting scholar for the 2017-2018 academic year at the Observatoire Sociologique du Changement (OSC), Sciences Po Paris. In 2016, she coordinated the project “Understanding mobility and precarization: ways of life, emergent political subjectivities and the ‘new middle class’” (original title: "Entendendo mobilidade e precariedade: formas de vida, subjetividades políticas emergentes e 'a nova classe média'"). The research was carried out in the city of Rio de Janeiro and it was led by professors from SUNY-New Paltz, Rutgers University, Newark e Portland State University. My research interests are in social policies with emphasis on poverty, inequalities and democracy. I have experience with quantitative and qualitative research methods.
